If you have landed here because you wish to nourish and support your new pregnancy, let me first say “Congratulations! I am so excited for you!”
While pregnancy is exciting and amazing, there can sometimes be symptoms like all day nausea, exhaustion, and muscle cramping that may leave you questioning your life choices.
During this precious and fragile time you may experience nausea, as I did, and as a result struggle at staying nourished and hydrated. Pregnancy teas are safe and nutritionally beneficial at any time in your pregnancy, and are perfect for sipping all day long. Traditionally, these herbs have been used to boost our fertility, so why not use them throughout pregnancy?

There is a lot of caution out there about taking anything while you’re pregnant—from herbs to food to prescription drugs. As a general rule of thumb, it’s wise to be cautiously informed. Always check the safety of ingredients before you ingest a product. I refered to experienced herbalist Susan S.Weed and her book Wise Woman Herbal For The Childbearing Year, when I considered this tea for my pregnancy after two miscarriages.
Keeping in mind that there is a lot of mainstream over-caution around herbs and pregnancy. A simple Google search will yield the scariest of results. Women have been taking herbs for everything from morning sickness, to facilitating birth for millennia. Be a wise consumer. Big drug companies aren’t buying yachts with nettle leaf profits- so you will find excessive cautions regards to most natural nourishing practices.
With that said, you are the one responsible for your own health. Do your research and be an informed consumer; talk to your midwife, doula, or herbalist (someone who knows you and your medical history) before starting on any nutritional supplementation.
Fortunately, there are quite a few natural herbs which are laden with proven benefits for pregnancy. As I share here, you will get a little insight about a few of them. This anti nausea First Trimester Herbal Tea blend has a mixture of nourishing ingredients that are packed with vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients.
Nettle Leaf (urtica dioca), is one of the finest nourishing tonics known. It is reputed to have more chlorophyll than any other herb. Nettle Leaves are high in iron and calcium, they can also be a source of folic acid, an essential nutrient during pregnancy. Nettle strengthens the kidneys and adrenals, while relieving fluid retention. Nettle also supports the vascular system, it can prevent varicose veins and hemorrhoids during pregnancy.
Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria)– In addition to being good for nausea, meadowsweet is good for overall digestive health. Even when you’re not pregnant! It helps protect and soothe the mucous membranes which can get irritated during pregnancy due to all of your digestive tract being moved around to make room for the baby. It can also be used for heartburn, hyperacidity, and ulcers.
Strawberry Leaf (fragaria vespa)– Strawberry leaf tea works well with raspberry leaf tea for toning the uterus and helping to prevent miscarriage. It can help throughout the pregnancy and during nursing.
Hawthorne Leaf (crataegus monogyna)-(works cumulatively to strengthen the heart and is said to help improve and prevent congenital heart defects)
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) Most people are familiar with the anti-nausea effects of ginger. With pregnancy, most over-the-counter anti-nausea medicines can’t be used. This is a great food alternative with anti nausea properties that soothe upset tummies.
Peppermint (mentha piperita) is one of the most commonly used herbal medicines in pregnancy. Studies have shown it doesn't harm the mother or baby, although you should avoid very large amounts.
It was my preference to buy the herbs in bulk and make my own herbal tea concoctions for pregnancy, in effort to save lots of money. I have done this every pregnancy and have always had plenty of tea through pregnancy. Or you can purchase pregnancy tea here.
